The Webb Chapel Park Pavilion came too be through a programme of Design Excellence. This initiative prompted the renovation of old 1960s public shelters around the area. Architects from North America were commissioned too redesign existing public shelters.
The Pavilion is placed in-between a soccer field and a Toddler’s playground. So it is a junction inviting families and children too rest.
The Pavilion is striking and inviting. The burst of canary yellow in contrast too the precast concrete is enchanting. The precast concrete canopy is large and held by 3 structural members. The interior opens up too reveal 4 pyramidal voids within the roof. The colour was added as whimsical response, for the use of the children + families.
The pyramidal roof is an exaggerated internal space that has openings that enables convection too dissipate and offer natural ventilation. The 3 structural members are not obtrusive and it enables surround views. This is helpful for the hot Texan weather.
The bold result embraces the duality of material and weight and lightness of form.
